Background:  Over thirty years of blood, sweat, and spears

A Theatre Consultant’s background should be varied and complete.  Both an academic knowledge and real world experience are fundamental necessities:

· “Experience is what you get when you didn’t get what you wanted.” We have first-hand knowledge of installation issues and the mechanics of  construction.  We have a practical perspective to the challenges faced by the contractor as they execute the contract.

· We have set-up, run-of-show, and strike experience.  This provides us the logistical understanding of equipment and personnel movements throughout the production plant.

· “All the world is a stage…”  We have a well rounded experience of production work outside of the typical theatre setting.  Many types of facilities have Presenter - Audience relationships:  Classrooms, gymnasiums, arenas, courtrooms, and religious facilities, just to name a few.  They all have one thing in common:  The presenter wants to completely engage the audience.

· The ‘big picture’ is more than a large screen TV.  As Theatre Consultants it is imperative that we understand the how’s and why’s of the various technical systems, and can balance the effects they have upon each-other.  A broad knowledge of each of the Architectural, Structural, Electrical, Mechanical, Acoustical, and Theatre Production systems is vital:  Closely coordinated to work together they make a theatre, designed in isolation they can result in a dysfunctional building.

Time is money.  How much time will you waste trying to work with outmoded systems or designing  systems that are properly coordinated with other building components?

God created time so that everything wouldn't happen at once. We'll do our very best to work within your project schedule. Please don't wait until the concrete is being poured to ask us for a systems design. Get us involved early. We can work with your design team to shape the spaces and systems for your very best use.

About Us

As a  Theatre Consultant, we are many things to many people.  It is difficult to condense the myriad of disciplines involved in our services into a simple description or phrase.  And when we do, it’s not always as black and white as one would like.

A Theatre Consultant is charged with making the performance space, and all the systems in it, work together as a homogeneous unit.  We are sometimes called-in to act as referee, and sometimes the one needing a referee.  As in any design process, the project goals and constraints must be identified and design decisions made.  It is a careful balancing act to coordinate and satisfy the competing interests of architecture, construction, art, and engineering.

Regardless of who our contract is with, we ultimately hold our responsibility to those that will have to operate and maintain the facility — they must have systems that are practical, safe, and functional.
